Getting Around Split – Transportation Guide
Split is a compact, walkable Mediterranean city where most sights are easy to reach on foot. Still, several transportation options make getting around simple and stress-free. Here’s a friendly guide to help you navigate the city.
Walking – The Best Way to Explore
Most of Split’s attractions—Diocletian’s Palace, the Riva, beaches, museums, and restaurants—are within comfortable walking distance.
The Old Town is fully pedestrian, so walking is often the quickest way to get around.
Local Buses
Split’s bus network, operated by Promet Split, connects the Old Town with beaches, Marjan Hill, shopping areas, and outer neighborhoods.
Useful tips:
- Tickets can be purchased on the bus (cash), online app or at kiosks.
- Most tourist destinations are in Zone 1.
- Buses run regularly during the day. You can check scheduale on this link.
Uber & Wizi (App-Based Ride Services)
Instead of taxis, Split now relies heavily on app-based transport. Uber and Wizi are the most popular options for both locals and visitors.
Why use them:
- Easy, cashless, and reliable
- Available 24/7
- Great for airport transfers
- Usually cheaper and easier than street taxis
This is the best option if you want door-to-door comfort or are traveling with luggage.
Split Airport Transfers
Split Airport is about 25–30 minutes from the city.
You can reach the city by:
- Uber / Wizi: convenient and often the best value
- Airport Shuttle Bus: runs between the airport and the Split main bus station
- Private transfer: available on request
Bikes and E-Scooters
Bike rentals and e-scooter apps are widely available.
Great for:
- Cruising along the coast
- Exploring Marjan Park
- Short-distance trips
Note: scooters and bikes are not allowed inside the Old Town pedestrian zone.
Car Rentals
A car isn’t necessary for the city itself, but very convenient for day trips to Krka, Omiš, Solin, Trogir, Brač, or Hvar (via ferry).
Keep in mind:
- Parking in the center can be limited, especially in summer.
- Public garages and paid street zones are available.
Ferries & Boat Connections
Split’s ferry port connects the city with the islands: Brač, Šolta, Hvar, Vis and Korčula. For schedule and tickets you can check Jadrolinija website. If you are planning to travel with car we recommend buying tickets online in advance to reserve the place and be at the port at least one hour before departure.
Catamarans operate frequently in summer, and many private boat tours depart directly from the Riva promenade. Depending on your destination different lines are offered by different companies Jadrolinija, Kapetan Luka, LNP, Bura Line.
To check all the options in one place we recommend using putovnica.net page as they always have updated time schedule.
Parking Tips
- Look for blue-zone paid parking or public garages
- Blue-zones you can pay bz cash or via app
- Locations of parking zones and garages you can find on Split parking website
- Expect limited availability in July–August
